The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has announced $80.7 million in high priority grants with the intent to fund and strengthen commercial motor vehicle safety initiatives under the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP). The grants will not be awarded to individual drivers or for profit trucking businesses, the HP grant funds are awarded to States, local governments, Federally recognized Native American tribes, political jurisdictions, non-profit organizations, institutions of higher education, and other eligible groups to carry out high priority activities and projects that strengthen commercial motor vehicle safety. The high-priority campaign also supports the efforts outlined in the President's Bipartisan Infrastructure Act (BIL), which is making historic investments in our nation's infrastructure and competitiveness. In addition, CMV safety and research investments under the HP program and funded by BIL contribute to the department's National Road Safety Strategy (NRSS), a comprehensive approach to improving road safety in our country. It's one of many actions the government and the Department of Transportation are taking to support truckers -- including investing in community colleges to train veterans on CDLs, investing in improved CDL processing, establishing the Women's Trucking Advisory Council, which investigates the impact of drivers on furloughs and The Truck Predator Leasing Task Force was formed. All interested applicants must apply on Grants.gov.
